Reorganising the Front Page

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I’ve done a bit of work to the links on the front page, which hopefully will simplify things a little.  Rather than have a level for the Event ID followed by a page for the source of the event, I’ve put it all down onto one page.  This means there is more stuff on the front page but at least all the information is there for people to see.  If it becomes to cluttered in the future I might do another re-org :)

So the format of the links is now [[Event ID : 9999, name_of_the_source]].  Then this should take you directly to the page with the information.

Please feel free to comment if you have any thought about the chnage.

Now with Forums :)

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Yes, we now have a forum on the site.  It’s not very exciting yet, but it a place to ask questions so please do.

Unfortunately the wiki logins don’t sync with the forums yet, so you will need to create a login for both.

Enjoy!

Twitter Groups For SysAdmins

Monday, April 14th, 2008

For all you sysadmins with a twitter addiction, I have created a few groups for people to join….

@sysadms, @windowsadms, @linuxadms

So, if you are interested in joining the group(s), then follow the links and click on ‘follow’.  Then all you need to do is send a direct message to the group and it will go out to all the members. ie "D sysadms Some message text".

If anyone has any ideas for more group, I’m happy to create them.

Pasting Details from the Event Log

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

This a really simple little tip that I learnt today……

If you go to the event log and double click an event you are looking at, it will bring up all the details of the event.  Then, if you click the little icon on the right hand side of the window, it will copy all the details of the event to the clipboard.  Wow, so simple but I had never spotted that!

This is dead handy if you creating a new page on the wiki :)

Setting Event ID Wiki as a Search Provider in IE

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Go to the search box in the top right hand corner of the window and click the down arrow.  Select ‘More search providers’.

On the page that appears, look at the yellow box on the right of the page.

In the box next to item 3. paste in :

http://www.eventidwiki.com/index.php?search=TEST

In the box next to item 4. paste in :

Event ID Wiki

Then click install.

Then go to the search box in the top right hand corner of the window again, and select ‘Event ID Wiki’.  Then you can add event id’s into the search box and get results from the wiki!

Spring Cleaning the Event Logs

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Now that I am getting email alerts from the event logs, I’ve noticed that there is a lot of odd little errors.  They are nothing serious, just a lot of ‘8032, Browser’ errors.  So, for the next week or so I’m going to make it my mission to remove some of the ‘noise’.  The 8032 errors are a good start because they are a pretty common one, and hopefully they should be easy to debug.

Of course, all of this will go on the wiki :)

Wish me luck!
